For Kandi King, being able to grab and go is crucial for her extra busy lifestyle. As an entrepreneur extraordinaire, sometimes she is only given two hours to get herself together before a meeting or an event. Her bags may not be large but they are surely filled with one bag ah necessary tings. We caught up with the director of Xaymaca International, CEO of Karnival by Kandi, event curator of Babe Brunch and TV presenter (catches breath) to give us a run-down on what she carries around on a daily basis.

“I never know what I am going to need and that is the biggest problem for me, so I just decide to have a little bit of everything,” said Kandi before dipping inside her bag among the savoury delicacies at Tea Tree Creperie.

“I have two bags. One is my real bag and the other is my laptop bag,” said the Xaymaca babe.

Her 10 must-have items in her everyday bag includes:

  • Cell phone
  • Sunglasses
  • Powdered sunscreen
  • Power bank (she is still waiting on solar-powered phones)
  • Toiletries pouch which consists of lotion, mouthwash, headache pills, nail file, Band-Aids, nail clipper, tweezers, safety pins
  • Purse with money (cha-ching)
  • Nude lip gloss
  • Deodorant
  • Reusable straw (which looks like a walking stick)
  • Car keys

Big bags are a definite no for Kandi, who prefers a medium-sized tote for efficiency. “Things tend to get lost in there so this is the perfect size for me,” she explained.

A sneak peek into her cute laptop knapsack revealed:

  • Laptop
  • Notebook
  • Sentimental 0.5 pen from Japan

“I only like to have the necessities. This is my life, which is very spontaneous, and as an entrepreneur, your day is not as structured as someone who is in an office. Lunch is not always at the same time. You never know when you are going to have lunch, who you are having lunch with or what type of event you are going to end up at the end of the day,” said Kandi.

As much as she tries to structure her life with planning and scheduling, she tends to be a little forgetful. This is where the alarms on her phone come in handy.

“I will forget that I have an event in the night until the alarm pops up. My alarms are always two hours before. So it’s usually ‘shoot, I have two hours before an event!’” she laughed.

This is when she runs through her checklist to see what she has ready to be on the move. “There is usually a pair of shoes in the car and lip gloss in my purse so I can organise myself,” she said.

“The things that I have within my reach, especially in my car or in my bag, are to ensure that I am efficient, and in case anything pops up I am prepared,” said Kandi, as she wrapped up her one bag ah tings.
