On May 23, an emotional groom said to his bride, “I have looked at you using every possible lens, from every angle known in the universe, and there is not one outcome that shows me not loving you. I love you forever and a day.” These vows were offered as a token of sincere sentiments shared between Milton Wisdom and Candice Burkley.

The pair aren’t complete strangers to the love scene. In 2019, the lovebirds shared their romantic journey in the relationship series, Take Two with Flair. Meeting almost eight years ago through work, the two developed an undeniable bond as lovers. Top Shelf might have been their place of employment, but Milton saw her as just that: top-shelf. Intrigued, he yearned for more. Meanwhile, his aspiring other half remained confused by his many aliases, but she didn’t dismiss his advances. Candice was fascinated by the interest and drawn to his charm.

As time passed, they may have changed jobs, but nothing could change how they felt about each other, even though Candice received the opportunity of a lifetime to work overseas in the United States of America within her chosen field of hospitality. Milton couldn’t stand in the way of that. He instead stood by her side, physically and virtually, bettering himself as a mixologist in the process. The couple admitted, however, that long-distance relationships are never easy, especially if you’re accustomed to seeing each other every day. But the experience made them stronger partners, and with love and ‘Wisdom’ in the mix, it was all worth it.

Candice would travel back and forth, and they would capitalise on quality time spent together back at home, going on adventures and romantic dates. In the summer of 2019, he decided that it was his turn to bridge the gap by visiting her in her neck of the woods in Minnesota. How do you follow up on that success? By asking the love of his life to be his wife months later.

Nerves threatened to shatter the surprise disguised as a family beach trip. With a hidden photographer on standby, Milton’s fidgeting and sweats worried his sweetheart, who grew concerned that he might have been feeling ill. She was happy to discover the reason when he went on one knee and asked her to marry him.

After setting their sights on tying the knot in Jamaica in 2020, the global pandemic of COVID-19 stood in the way of their beach wedding. So the couple opted to stay abroad and have the wedding there. “We couldn’t wait any longer. It was a difficult decision to make. Doing something of this magnitude without half of the family really took a toll on us emotionally,” Milton told Island Wedding. They appreciated the close family members and friends who flew up for the special occasion and were grateful for the support received from the Lutsen family, who were with them overseas.

CHOOSING THE WEDDING DRESS

The beautiful bride is positively glowing on her wedding day.

“I tried on a few different options, some big and some small. I wanted the train, not too extravagant; I wanted the beading. And this dress was exactly what I envisioned. I just had to alter it, and I’d be fine.” Candice revealed, noting that her husband was right there with her in the physical absence of her mother and sister, who were present via video call.

The official planning got underway two months prior, and with assistance from close friends and family members, Candice did most of the Wisdom wedding planning from start to finish. Embracing DIY mode, it brought them great joy to see the vision come to life at the wedding.

Among the remixed traditions were writing their vows individually then making the exchange on the day of the wedding, before the ceremony. For the wow factor, since he had already seen her dress, he remained blindfolded until she stood before him. He was overcome with emotions by her complete bridal look. “She was so beautiful,” he gushed over his bride. The feelings of attraction were mutual for Candice, who couldn’t get over how handsome her groom looked.

From the idyllic ceremony to the festive reception at the Pier B Resort Hotel in Minnesota, the Wisdoms could be seen basking in nuptial bliss, “There was nothing traditional about this wedding; we knew that from the start, and it was perfect,” Candice added.
