Carnival in Jamaica has been postponed until April 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The new date for the carnival road march is Sunday, April 11.

The road parade, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 19 was previously moved to October 25.

Ocho Rios Carnival and the Downtown Kingston Carnival Parade will take place Sunday, April 4.

The Ministry of Tourism announced today that Carnival in Jamaica organisers would forgo the road march and related activities until April 2021.

It noted that the annual event is a billion-dollar generator.

“This move supports preventative measures introduced by the Jamaican Government to control the unnecessary exposure of citizens and visitors to COVID-19,” said the ministry.
