What a frightening time this is. With a raging pandemic, all are urged to forget human closeness and isolate in efforts to keep safe. Now that #TanAhYuhYard is in full effect, you’re probably looking for ways to occupy your time when taking a break from work. Movies and TV shows are great ways to get involved or relax your mind. Either way, here’s a list of Netflix hits you can explore, sorted by genre.

HORROR
Santa Clarita Diet (three seasons): Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant team up with Emmy-nominated creator Victor Fresco for this genre-bending comedy. This show is a little unorthodox because it’s about a mom who craves human flesh and a dad who just wants a normal life. They happen to find a compromise, and their marriage is working. It features quite a bit of dark humour and is sure to make you laugh and cringe at the same time.

The Walking Dead (season nine coming April 15): The last of humanity bands together to survive the zombie apocalypse and, of course, attack among themselves. These aren’t the slow zombies; they’re fast and can smell human flesh from miles away. Only a few survive.

Marianne: Small-town girl Emma, a bestselling author, uses writing to keep her nightmares away. She announces to her fans that this is her last book, but one particular demon in the closet isn’t happy about that. See how this unravels when she returns home.

THRILLERS
OZARK (three seasons): A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder US$500 million in five years to appease a drug boss. This show is binge-worthy, so be ready to spend hours sitting on the edge of your couch and screaming at the characters.

What If: Desperate to secure funding for her med-tech start-up, an idealist scientist and her husband strike an outrageous deal with a mysterious investor. There’s not much to say on this show without spoilers. Sit and enjoy.

ACTION
Queen of the South (three seasons): Forced to work for a drug cartel that recently killed her boyfriend, Theresa relies on her street smarts, a loyal pal, and a mysterious notebook to survive. She’s a girl boss who gets things done.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: This is a cynical, dark action-comedy that’s true to its name. Three extraordinary orphans face nonstop trials and tribulations in their fateful quest to unlock long-held family secrets.

Jessica Jones (three seasons): Haunted by a traumatic past, Jessica Jones uses her gift as a private eye to find her tormentor before he harms anyone else. On average, each episode runs about 50 minutes, and each season is 13 episodes long.

Next week, we’ll explore more genres, but until then, let us know what you’re streaming @flairja on Instagram.
