It’s National Rum Day. As we celebrate our favourite spirits, cocktails, blended beverages and desserts, we’re sharing our favourite Thursday Food-approved Appleton Estate cocktails.

Mai Tai

Ingredients

  • 2oz of Appleton Estate 8-Year-Old Reserve Rum
  • .5oz of fresh lime juice
  • .5oz orange curacao
  • .5oz of orgeat syrup

Direction: Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with crushed ice (and cubes). Please note: you want to shake this cocktail until it’s chilled and then pour into a double old-fashioned glass. Then garnish with lime shell and mint sprig.

Rum Old-Fashioned

The indulgent Appleton Estate 12-Year-Old Rare Casks expression is known to ‘sing’ in the Rum Old-Fashioned cocktail. Luckily, you don’t have to be a mixologist to create this cocktail on your own.

Ingredients

  • 2½ parts Appleton Estate Rare Casks 12-Year-Old
  • ½ part sugar syrup
  • 1 dash Peychaud’s bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel

Direction: Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with large cubed ice. Next, you will want to stir quickly until the glass frosts then strain into the old-fashioned glass over a large block of ice or ice sphere. Afterwards, finish it off with an orange twist.
