Many of you have made going organic a lifestyle. So, why not add sanitary napkins, tampons, and pantyliners to that way of life?

Annanealla Downey is the woman you need to speak with to get the ball rolling. While the 22-year-old is unable to produce the delicate female necessities, she possesses the wits and know-how of getting them into your hands. She’s a retailer for Women’s Haven, a Trinidad-based company that focuses on organic feminine-care products.

The aspiring accountant uses the brand Women’s Haven Jamaica. She knows how it is to be constantly irritated by traditional products when ‘Aunt Flo’ visits. In fact, it’s what caused her to seek substitutes that would make the experience more comfortable.

“I want to provide females with an alternative way of living and educate them about the dangers of using toxic traditional sanitary pads. I aim to change Jamaican females’ perspective of the everyday traditional pads and to try something that is eco-friendly and natural. By 2022, I want half of the Jamaican female population to change to organic sanitary pads,” she told Flair.

Annanealla has been pursuing this journey for the past year. She explained to Flair that even though the entrepreneurial pursuit has been rewarding, it’s also a challenging game. Getting her products on local shelves is a major problem.

BEST SUBSTITUTES

According to Annanealla, the eco-friendly items have been proven helpful to several women in many ways. She’s also ecstatic about the products’ biodegradable nature and health benefits, including reducing the risk of illnesses and rashes.

“Prolonged use of synthetic products can lead to serious health concerns. Products high in chemicals cause consumers to suffer from skin irritation, breathing disabilities, chronic headaches, hormone disruption, cancers, and a vast range of other symptoms,” she said.

As the burgeoning entrepreneur explained, the pads are 100% organic, made from natural substances and vegan approved. The sanitary napkins, along with pantyliner liners, are infused with graphene, a carbon-based natural element considered to be the thinnest and strongest material there is.

“Graphene strips help to improve circulatory health, cell activity and metabolic health. In addition, it may help inhibit harmful bacteria growth and contaminants. It provides natural protection against irritation of the skin, infection, and the bacteria that causes bad odour,” the retailer told Flair.
